John de Beauchesne, also known as John de Beau Chesne, Jean de Beauchesne and Jehan de Beauchesne (c in Paris – May in London) was a French Hugenot writing master (that is, a teacher of penmanship) and relocated to London aroundin the reign of Elizabeth he co-authored A Booke containing divers sortes of hands, the first writing manual.
The first copybook published in England, A Booke Containing Divers Sortes of Hands (; this title also translates Cresci’s), is the work of a French Huguenot immigrant writing master, Jean de Beauchesne, and John Baildon (or Basildon), about whom nothing further is known.
